Babcock International has announced the resignation of Andrew Cridland, chief executive officer (CEO) of Babcock Australasia, after more than 10 years with the company.
According to a statement from Babcock International, Cridland has chosen to step down to “pursue other interests” and dedicate more time to his family.
Andrew Cridland became CEO of Babcock Australasia in July 2023, following his tenure as the region’s chief financial officer. He has been with Babcock since 2015.
Babcock Group CEO David Lockwood said: “Andrew has been a valued member of Babcock Australasia and on behalf of the company, I thank him for his commitment throughout his almost 11 years of service. We wish him all the very best for the future.”
Following the departure of Cridland, Leah Grantham, previously chief of staff at Babcock Australasia, has been appointed as acting CEO with immediate effect.
Grantham is based at the company’s regional head office in Adelaide and has held senior leadership positions at Babcock for the past four years. She brings over two decades of experience in corporate strategy, corporate affairs, and government and stakeholder relations.

David Lockwood said: “Leah’s background positions her strongly to lead the company in this forthcoming period, through an exciting window of growth and opportunity in Australia and New Zealand as the defence industry plays an increasingly important role in supporting the safety and security of the Australasian region.”
Meanwhile, the company has initiated a recruitment process to identify a permanent replacement for the CEO position.
Babcock Australasia recently reported a decline in revenue, making it one of only two regions alongside Africa in the broader Babcock group to experience such a decrease in the first half of fiscal year 2026.
The business recorded £192.6m ($258.8m) in revenue for the six months ending 30 September 2025, down from £203.8m during the same period the previous year.
In June 2025, Babcock Australasia expanded its operational capabilities by completing an intermediate maintenance availability on NUSHIP Arafura, an Arafura-class offshore patrol vessel.
