EU to discuss possible talks with Russia and demands to Moscow, top diplomat says
The European Union will discuss proposals and conditions for dialogue with Russia during a meeting in Cyprus on 27–28 May.

Kaja Kallas, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, has said ahead of a meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council on 11 May that EU foreign ministers would discuss possible negotiations between the European Union and Russia, as well as the demands the EU should make to Moscow, during an informal meeting on Cyprus on 27–28 May.

Details: Kallas said that, regarding Russia, the EU first needed to discuss internally what it wanted to talk to Moscow about, which was why the upcoming Gymnich meeting of foreign ministers would focus on the proposals she had put forward to address the issues facing the bloc.
Kallas stressed that the issue of European security is that Russia constantly attacks its neighbours and how we can prevent this.
For this, the EU also needs concessions from the Russian side, the EU's top diplomat emphasised.
Kallas recalled that she had visited Moldova last week. She noted that there were Russian troops in Moldova and said that one possible condition for stability and security in the region could be Russia's withdrawal of those forces.
According to Kallas, there are still many issues concerning what the EU's demands to Russia are in order to have a stable and peaceful Europe.

Meanwhile, Kallas rejected former German chancellor Gerhard Schröder as a candidate to negotiate with Russia on behalf of the EU.
Official Germany also rejected Vladimir Putin's proposal regarding Schröder, seeing it as an attempt to sow division in Europe and among German politicians.
Earlier, Kallas initiated discussions with EU member states on a list of concessions Europe should demand from Russia as part of a potential agreement to end the Russo-Ukrainian war.
