Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov has said Russian ruler Vladimir Putin held a phone call with US President Donald Trump, during which they discussed the war in Ukraine and the upcoming NATO summit in Türkiye.
Quote:"The presidents touched upon the issue of a settlement in Ukraine in light of President Trump's upcoming participation in the NATO summit in Türkiye on 7-8 July. The American president once again confirmed his readiness to help bring an end to the fighting as soon as possible, and his special envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, will be ready to visit Moscow at a convenient time." Details:Ushakov claimed the phone call was initiated by the Trump administration and lasted one hour and 25 minutes.
He added that Putin once again reiterated his ultimatum demands for ending the war during the conversation. The Russian ruler again shifted responsibility for the aggression onto the victim, accusing Ukraine of "prolonging and escalating the conflict" and of carrying out "terrorism against civilians".
During the call with Trump, Putin also claimed that Russian forces are making "steady advances" along the entire front line. In particular, he boasted of capturing Kostiantynivka in Donetsk Oblast, calling the occupation of the Ukrainian city "an important stage in the liberation of the entire territory of theDPR", the so-called Donetsk People's Republic, a self-proclaimed Russia-backed quasi-state formation in Ukraine's Donetsk Oblast.
"And no matter how the Kyiv regime clings to its remaining fortified areas, our army will inevitably take them," Ushakov stated.
In addition to the war in Ukraine, the leaders discussed prospects for resuming economic and military-political contacts.
Quote:"There are broad prospects for mutually beneficial cooperation between our countries. To achieve this, Donald Trump should bring the 'Ukrainian conflict' to an end as soon as possible." [The Russians use the term "Ukrainian conflict" to refer to their full-scale war of aggression against Ukraine – ed.].
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the Kremlin welcomed Zelenskyy's willingness to "come to Russia for talks" and added that Putin is ready to meet him in Moscow.
