Russia launched a fresh wave of missile, bomb, and drone attacks across Ukraine early Friday, April 3, striking Kharkiv and Shostka, killing at least one civilian and injuring several others as a large-scale drone assault continued.

Early Friday morning, Russian forces launched missile strikes on Kharkiv. According to Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov, four ballistic missiles hit the city’s Kyivskyi district, damaging multiple high-rise residential buildings, shattering windows, and rupturing a gas pipeline.

Regional authorities said a 63-year-old woman was injured and hospitalized, while an 18-year-old girl suffered an acute stress reaction.

In the Sumy region, Russian forces struck Shostka with four guided aerial bombs (KABs), hitting both private homes and a residential building.

Officials confirmed that a 59-year-old woman was killed in the attack. Three others were wounded and hospitalized, including a 29-year-old woman in critical condition. The victim’s relatives were among the injured.

The strikes followed a drone attack on Kharkiv late on April 2, which injured six people, including an 8-year-old girl and a baby. All suffered acute stress reactions.

Four districts of the city – Novobavarskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, Kharkivskyi, and Osnovianskyi – were affected. A store was damaged, and a nearby four-story building caught fire.

Russian forces also targeted Zaporizhzhia late on April 2. The blast wave damaged a high-rise building and a utility facility, though no casualties were reported.

Monitoring channels report that the large-scale drone assault is ongoing, with around 150 drones launched since midnight and further waves expected later in the day.

Head of the Communications Department of the Ukrainian Air Force, Yuriy Ihnat, later confirmed during a telethon that as of Friday morning, Russian forces were attacking Ukraine with a large number of drones.

According to Ihnat, about 240 drones had been recorded as of 7:00 a.m., with the number later rising to over 400. He did not rule out further launches.

He added that Russia is using not only “Shahed” drones, but also various other types. UAVs have been reported over the Kirovohrad, Vinnytsia, Cherkasy, and Sumy regions, approaching from multiple directions.

On the morning of April 3, explosions were heard in Cherkasy and on the outskirts of the city, followed by reports of air defense activity. Explosions were also reported in the Poltava region, where local authorities said air defenses were operating in the Kremenchuk district.

At 10:23 a.m., the Air Force issued a warning:

“All of Ukraine is under missile threat! MiG-31K takeoff recorded.”
