Thai sailors sue shipping firm after Strait of Hormuz attack

Three Thai sailors have sued their former employer after a projectile struck their cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz in March, killing three crew members.

Panithi Tumkaew, Noppadon Wongsuvan and Surades Manpuen accuse Precious Shipping, two affiliates and the vessel’s captain of endangering their lives and dismissing them before their nine-month contracts ended.

Their lawyer said the men received only two months’ salary despite later developing post-traumatic stress disorder that left them unable to return to sea.

“We tried to negotiate with the company, but it denied responsibility, so we believe the matter should be brought to the court,” Kunpat Singhathong said.
