In the middle of our conversation, Avner Salameh suddenly starts to dance. He waves his arms around, smiles broadly, his eyes sparkle. We're standing on the sidewalk outside the Heichal Hakodesh shul in Yavne'el, a small town southwest of Lake Kinneret. A leading figure in and one of the founders of the Bratslav Hasidic community here, Salameh speaks freely. He says he has seven sons and four daughters, dozens of grandchildren and great-grandchildren – and one ambition: "All these years I aspired to have the privilege of carrying out a mitzvah min hamuvchar [fulfilling a precept in an ideal way]: to marry off the boys at the age of 13," he asserts, adding, "and I got pretty close: Usually it was at the age of 15-16."
