Trump says Israel and Iran have ‘called it quits’ for now

US President Donald Trump said he expects Israel and Iran to refrain from further attacks for at least a week following what he described as a “very good conversation” with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Speaking to reporters, Trump said Netanyahu had responded to Iranian attacks but suggested both sides were now prepared to pause hostilities.

“But he was hit, he hit back, and now they’ve called it quits. So they’re going to just leave each other alone for another week or something,” Trump said.

Trump also expressed confidence that negotiations with Iran were nearing a conclusion, saying the United States was in the final stages of reaching an agreement that would prevent Tehran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.

He added that the Strait of Hormuz could reopen immediately after the signing of a deal, which he suggested might occur within the next several days.
