A woman suspected of poisoning a soldier on behalf of Russian intelligence agencies has been detained in the Zakarpattia region.

According to Ukrinform, this was reported on the website of the Zakarpattia Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

“Under the procedural guidance of the Zakarpattia Regional Prosecutor’s Office, the circumstances surrounding the death of a soldier in Uzhhorod are being investigated. A 26-year-old resident of Zaporizhzhia, who was temporarily residing in the city, has been detained on suspicion of treason,” the statement reads.

According to the investigation, the woman did not act alone. Through a popular messaging app, she contacted a representative of the Russian special services and received instructions from him. For $3,000, the suspect agreed to obtain information from the Ukrainian soldier’s phone.

“The woman subsequently met the soldier and established a trusting relationship with him. Later, following instructions from her ‘handler,’ she obtained an unknown substance, which she slipped into the man’s drink. After some time, the soldier lost consciousness and later died,” the prosecutor’s office reported.

According to the investigation, immediately afterward, the woman photographed the body and sent a report to her “clients.” At the same time, she called an ambulance and attempted to stage the incident as an accident; however, law enforcement officers quickly exposed the suspect. She was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

According to the prosecutor’s office, several pieces of evidence were seized during the searches. She has been notified of her status as a suspect in a case of high treason committed under martial law (Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The court ordered her to be held in custody without bail.

Investigators are currently determining all the circumstances of the tragedy. As part of the investigation, the causes of the soldier’s death are being established. After receiving the experts’ conclusions, including the forensic medical examination, a decision will be made on the detainee’s further classification.

The maximum punishment provided for by the sanction of the charged article is life imprisonment.

As reported, the student who carried out the shooting at the school in Chop was recruited by Russians during online games.
