Russia Pounds Odesa Overnight: High-Rises, Hotel Hit, Children Among Injured

Odesa was hit by a massive Russian drone attack early Monday morning, April 27, damaging high-rise buildings and a hotel in the city, and causing casualties.

In a Telegram post, the head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, Serhiy Lysak, said:

“The night was extremely difficult. The enemy carried out a massive attack on residential areas and civilian infrastructure in Odesa. Ten people, including two children, sought medical attention,” the report said.

According to him, the most significant damage was recorded in the Primorskyi district. The attack damaged residential buildings, a hotel, and facilities in the city center. It was also in this area that most of the victims were injured, including children.

The Khadzhibeyskyi and Kyivskyi districts were also targeted, where Russian forces struck residential high-rise buildings, private homes, and vehicles.

“More than 250 service and utility workers worked on the ground throughout the night. The injured are being provided with all necessary medical care, and residents of damaged buildings are receiving assistance and consultations on compensation,” Lysak added.

On Monday morning, Russian forces carried out a massive attack on Koryukivka in the Chernihiv region.

The head of the Koryukivka District State Administration, Pavlo Miroshnychenko, reported that a 42-year-old employee of a local enterprise and an 81-year-old man were injured in the explosions. Details about their condition are still being clarified.

The attack lasted from 4:30 to 5:10 a.m.

“There was a preliminary strike involving 18 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) across three locations. These included a critical infrastructure facility and two enterprises. Nearby buildings were also damaged,” Miroshnychenko wrote.

According to him, fires are currently burning at the impact sites, and all emergency services are working to eliminate the consequences of the strike.

The attack destroyed an energy infrastructure facility. Several industrial enterprises were also destroyed, and residential buildings near the impact sites sustained damage.

In addition, Russian forces once again attacked communities in the Sumy region with drones late on Sunday evening, April 26.

On Telegram, the head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, Oleh Hryhorov, reported that in the Romenskyi community, transport infrastructure and adjacent buildings were damaged as a result of Russian strikes.

“People went down to shelters in time. There were no injuries. A 55-year-old woman suffered an acute stress reaction. Doctors provided the necessary assistance,” the report said.

Damage was also recorded in the residential sector as a result of the attack, and some consumers were left without electricity due to the shelling. Hryhorov added that restoration work will begin as soon as the security situation allows.

The Sumy community was also hit, where damage was recorded in the residential sector and critical infrastructure facilities were affected. Fortunately, there were no injuries.

According to the Air Force, from 6 p.m. on Sunday, April 26, Russia launched 94 attack drones, including Shahed UAVs (some jet-powered), as well as Gerbera, Italmas, and other types, from five directions. Around 60 of them were Shaheds.

The air assault was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare units, unmanned systems, and mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

According to preliminary data as of 9:00 a.m. on Monday, air defenses shot down or suppressed 74 Russian UAVs across the north, south, and east of the country.

“Twenty strike UAVs hit 15 locations, while debris from downed drones fell in 11 locations,” the report said.
