Seven hits: OSINT analysts reveal details of Storm Shadow attack on Russian plant

Analysts from CyberBoroshno, a Ukrainian OSINT community, have published an analysis of the 10 March Storm Shadow cruise missile strike on the Kremniy EL microelectronics plant in Bryansk after the strike was confirmed.

Details: According to CyberBoroshno's data, Russian monitoring channels first detected the missiles at 16:52 in the Pogar district of Bryansk Oblast. Initially, the Russians were unable to immediately identify the type of airborne assets, as reports mentioned jet-powered UAVs, Storm Shadow missiles or Neptune missiles.

"The first strike on the plant's premises was recorded at 16:59, approximately seven minutes after the missiles were first detected in the Pogar district," the community said.

According to the analysis, the missiles followed the following route: Pogar district → Trubchevsk area → Bryansk.

"Before hitting the target, the missiles approached the plant from different directions, mostly from the east. In total, seven strikes were recorded at the Kremniy EL plant," the analysts wrote.

The community noted that most of the hits – five strikes – targeted Building No. 4, while two additional missiles hit other production facilities belonging to the company.

The analysts suggest that the missiles' approach from the east may indicate an attempt to bypass Russian air defence zones and the use of a more complex flight route, which corresponds to the typical use profile of Storm Shadow cruise missiles.

Ukraine's General Staff confirmed that the Kremniy EL plant in Bryansk had been struck using British-made Storm Shadow missiles. Aerial reconnaissance following the strike was conducted by troops from the Raid unit, Ukraine's 413th Regiment of the Unmanned Systems Forces.

The plant specialises in discrete semiconductor technology and integrated microchips, described as the "brains" and "nervous system" of modern weapons, particularly Iskander missiles.

Background:

  • Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had also confirmed the strike on the Bryansk microelectronics facility.
  • The Storm Shadow cruise missile, weighing about 1,300 kg, is equipped with a 450-kg warhead, has a range of up to 560 km (on export versions, this is up to 250 km), and uses inertial and GPS navigation combined with terrain-following systems to fly at low altitude.
