Time is not a friend: Pain is everywhere in Rachel Goldberg-Polin's memoir

I've been looking at pictures of Hersh Goldberg-Polin online. I searched for them to accompany the words of his mother, Rachel, who describes him at the beginning of her book: his shoulders, palms, nostrils, eyes, eyelashes. His Israeli shoe size was 46. He tried, unsuccessfully, to grow a thick beard. His eyes always looked tired. His eyebrows sprouted wildly in every direction.
