The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) recorded 233 combat engagements over the course of Thursday July 9, highlighting the intensity of Russia’s ongoing offensive across the front line.
As of 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, Russian forces had carried out 57 airstrikes, launched 167 guided bombs, used 6,282 kamikaze drones and conducted 2,239 shelling attacks against Ukrainian positions and civilian settlements, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported in their evening operational update.

Heavy strikes across eastern axes
On the South-Slobozhanske axis, Russian troops assaulted Ukrainian positions 14 times near Starytsia, Novovasylivka, Lyman and Vovchansk, as well as Zybine, Shevyakivka, Hoptivka and Izbytske, with four engagements still ongoing at the time of the report.
On the Kupiansk axis, Russian forces launched two attacks in the direction of Kurylivka.
The General Staff said Ukrainian units repelled ten attempts by Russian troops to advance further south, on the Lyman axis near Borova, Stavky, Lyman, Dibrova, Ozerne and Shyikivka, with three more clashes continuing.
On the Sloviansk axis, defense forces stopped 26 Russian attempts to move forward toward Rai-Oleksandrivka and Pyskunivka and around Kryva Luka, Zakitne and Riznykivka, with one additional engagement still ongoing at the time of reporting.
Pokrovsk sees high Russian losses
According to the report, heavy activity was seen on the Pokrovsk axis, where Russian forces conducted 15 attacks while trying to advance near Dorozhnye, Novooleksandrivka, Udachne and Kotlyne, and toward Shevchenko, Serhiivka, Bilytske and Myrne.
