Established in 1980, the Ischia International Journalism Award has recognised journalists and news organisations that have made a significant contribution to the development of independent journalism for more than four decades. The award is held under the patronage of the president of the Italian Republic, and the winners are selected by a jury comprising executives from leading Italian media outlets, including Corriere della Sera, la Repubblica, Il Sole 24 Ore, RAI, ANSA and others.
This year, the International Award went to the British newspaper The Guardian, the European Award was presented to Ukrainska Pravda, and Italian public broadcaster RAI's special correspondent Stefania Battistini was named Journalist of the Year.
During the ceremony, Musaieva said it was especially meaningful for the newsroom to receive the award as a European media outlet.
Quote from Musaieva:"It means a great deal to us that Ukrainska Pravda is being recognised as a European publication. Ukrainians have chosen Europe – not only politically, but through our values. We believe in freedom, democracy and human dignity. Our soldiers defend these values every day with their lives. So this award is more than professional recognition. It is also a reminder that Ukraine belongs to the European family."
Details:She also stressed that freedom of speech and democracy should never be taken for granted.
"Freedom, justice and a free press do not exist on their own. They survive only if people defend them every day. As journalists, that is part of our responsibility. Every story we investigate, every fact we verify, every truth we publish helps protect that space of freedom," the editor-in-chief said.
Musaieva dedicated the award to the entire Ukrainska Pravda team, to Ukrainian journalists who continue to work during the full-scale war, and to the Ukrainian soldiers whose efforts make it possible for independent media in Ukraine to continue their work.
