Xi Hosts Lukashenko as Belarus Deepens Alignment With Russia

Xi hosted Lukashenko at the Diaoyutai state guesthouse, China’s traditional venue for diplomatic meetings, state broadcaster CCTV said. No additional details of the talks were immediately released.

Lukashenko, who has ruled Belarus since 1994, allowed Russian forces to use Belarusian territory to launch the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, while insisting his country is not directly involved in the war.

Belarus, which borders NATO’s eastern flank, has also hosted Russia’s Oreshnik nuclear-capable missile system, further deepening its military alignment with Moscow.

China has consistently portrayed itself as a neutral actor in the conflict, calling for peace talks while avoiding direct criticism of Russia.

However, Kyiv’s Western allies have repeatedly accused Beijing of providing indirect support to Moscow’s war effort – allegations China denies.

Lukashenko last visited China in September 2025, when he attended a military parade in Beijing and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Tianjin, signaling a steady expansion of Belarus-China engagement alongside Minsk’s dependence on Russia.
