The violence and brutality of the police in dispersing Saturday evening's protest against the war at Tel Aviv's Habima Square was no surprise. Since Itamar Ben-Gvir became national security minister the police have been turning into an enforcement arm for silencing government criticism, including the use of riot units, mounted officers and water cannons against citizens who dare to express an opinion. The police force's status as Ben Gvir's enforcement arm has received official endorsement.
