Former Ekho Moskvy editor-in-chief fined for cooperating with ‘undesirable’ organization

Alexei Venediktov, former editor-in-chief of the shuttered independent Russian radio station Ekho Moskvy, has been fined for cooperating with an “undesirable” organization, the Slovo Zashchite project reported.

Venediktov was charged with cooperating with the Echo project, a Germany-based outlet launched after Ekho Moskvy was shut down in Russia. Russia’s Prosecutor General’s Office declared the organization “undesirable” in 2025.

Venediktov said he disagreed with the ruling: “I consider this decision unfounded and unjust. I will appeal.”

Alexei Venediktov lives in Russia. In 2022, he was declared a ‘foreign agent.’
