Israeli Shell Kills Teen in Quneitra

A young man was killed after being targeted by an Israeli tank shell that struck him directly while he was inside a car in rural Quneitra Governorate, southern Syria, on Friday, 3 April.

Enab Baladi’s correspondent in Quneitra said the victim was Osama Fahd al-Fahd, 17, who was hit by a shell fired by Israel in the town of Rasm al-Za’roura, while inside a car. According to the correspondent, he was transferred to Nawa Hospital, northwest of Daraa, and there were no other injuries.

Quneitra Media Directorate said the young man was killed after his car was targeted by the Israeli army with an artillery shell while he was checking on his livestock west of Rasm al-Za’roura village, near the separation line.

Syria’s Foreign Ministry condemned the Israeli attack, saying the “aggression constitutes a flagrant violation” of international humanitarian law and reflects what it described as the continuation of “aggressive policies” that target civilians and put their lives at risk. The ministry called on the international community to assume its legal and humanitarian responsibilities and take immediate measures to stop these repeated violations.

Rasm al-Za’roura lies along the barbed-wire line separating Syrian territory from areas occupied by Israel, according to the correspondent, who said the area has remained under continuous security alert along the ceasefire line.

Government Denies Rocket Launches

Separately, Quneitra Media Directorate denied that rockets had been launched from the Syrian side toward the occupied Golan, saying such claims were “baseless.”

The directorate called on media outlets to “adhere to professional standards” in verifying information before publishing it, and to rely on official sources to avoid what it described as “spreading rumors or stirring confusion.”

Lebanese channel al-Mayadeen, which is close to Lebanon’s Hezbollah and Iran, had cited Israeli media reports saying rockets were launched from Syria toward the Golan. Enab Baladi had not observed any claim of responsibility for rocket fire toward the Golan by the time of publication.

For his part, Enab Baladi’s correspondent said explosions were heard earlier in the evening, likely resulting from the interception of rockets fired from Iran toward Israel.

Beit Jinn Incident

Israel has been carrying out near-daily incursions into Syrian territory in the border governorates of Quneitra and Daraa, which at times result in arrests or attacks on residents.

These incursions and attacks have caused civilian deaths, most notably on 28 November 2025, when 13 civilians, including women and children, were killed and 24 others were injured in an Israeli army strike on Beit Jinn, Rural Damascus, at dawn.

The shelling came after the Israeli army entered the town to arrest several young men, leading to clashes between residents and Israeli forces, which later announced that six of its soldiers had been wounded.

Syria’s Foreign Ministry condemned the incident at the time, saying the targeting of Beit Jinn by “brutal and deliberate shelling constitutes a full-fledged war crime.” Several countries and organizations also condemned the Israeli attacks on Beit Jinn, including Britain, Turkey, Kuwait, the Arab League, the Gulf Cooperation Council, the United Nations, Qatar, Jordan, the Palestinian movements Hamas and Islamic Jihad, and the Muslim Brotherhood in Syria.

Road Closures

In a related context, the Israeli army, which has advanced into Quneitra, closed the secondary roads between the villages of al-Asbah and Kudna in the southwestern countryside of the governorate, according to the correspondent.

On 29 March, Enab Baladi’s correspondent said Israeli army patrols detained two children from Asha while they were grazing livestock near Tal al-Ahmar al-Gharbi in the southern countryside, before releasing them several hours later.

The correspondent added that Israeli forces also detained a farmer from Sida Golan in southern Quneitra and released him hours later. He said the same day saw new measures by Israeli patrols during incursions into several areas, including house searches in Ofania and Ain al-Bayda in northern Quneitra, as well as the collection of information on some residents.

That coincided with demands for personal identification cards and the establishment of a checkpoint at the main road junction leading toward the villages of Jubata al-Khashab in northern Quneitra.

Israel releases some detainees after several hours, while keeping others and taking them to unknown locations. The reported Israeli violations have also included bulldozing farmers’ land and spraying pesticides containing toxic substances that affected the area’s vegetation cover.

The Syrian government continues to call for Israeli forces to withdraw from its territory and for a return to the 1974 disengagement agreement signed between the two sides.
