Von der Leyen confirms Ukraine will receive €6bn from EU for drones in Q2 2026
The first defence package from the EU’s €90 billion loan for Ukraine will amount to around €6 billion and is expected to be disbursed in the current quarter, with a focus on Ukrainian-made drones.

The first €6 billion defence package for Ukraine from the €90 billion EU loan will be disbursed this quarter and will focus on Ukrainian-made drones.

Details: Von der Leyen confirmed the EU's intention to disburse the first €6 billion tranche of the €90 billion loan to Ukraine in the second quarter of 2026.
Quote: "In spring we have said that we would deliver on the €90 billion loan for Ukraine, in one way or the other. Now we made good on this promise. We will disperse the first tranche of €45 billion for 2026, still this quarter."
Details: Von der Leyen noted that one-third of the €90 billion EU loan will go to Ukraine's budgetary needs, while two-thirds will be allocated to defence.

Background:
European Pravda learned that the first tranche of the military component of the EU's €90 billion loan will amount to €6 billion and will be transferred to Ukraine no later than June.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also said the first military tranche from the €90 billion package will be directed towards "domestic production for Ukraine's defence".
Meanwhile, it has emerged that the EU may tighten conditions for granting Ukraine the €90 billion loan.
