The attack also targeted a port command centre reportedly used to oversee naval operations, along with key facilities responsible for vessel repair and maintenance.

According to a report in the Times of Israel, some of the targeted vessels were docked at the port, while others were at sea.

The report notes that although the missile boats do not pose a direct threat to Israel from the Caspian Sea, they were targeted to deal a blow to Iranian military capabilities.

This attack marks the first time since the launch of Operation Roaring Lion that Israeli forces have struck Iranian navy targets in the Caspian Sea, Israeli ambassador to the US, Yechiel (Michael) Leiter said.

During the strike, the forces eliminated key terrorists across Lebanon, the ambassador added.

In a video posted on his official X account, Israeli Ambassador to the US Yechiel (Michael) Leiter stated: “Over the past 24 hours, we hit Iranian navy boats in the Caspian Sea all the way up in the north. After the American Air Force took out their navy ships in the Gulf area in the south, we hit more Basij checkpoints so there could be more freedom of movement of the Iranians.

“We hit the commander of the Imam Hussein division, who was just on the job for a week. We see more and more of these commanders hesitant and anxious about taking command.”

Recently, the IDF also targeted crossings over Lebanon’s Litani River. According to IDF, these crossings were used for terrorist movement and for transporting thousands of weapons including rockets and rocket launchers intended for attacks against IDF troops and Israeli civilians.

During the first week of the operation, IDF reported that an Israeli Air Force (IAF) F-35I “Adir” fighter jet shot down an Iranian Air Force Yak-130 over Tehran. This marked the first time an F-35 “Adir” has downed a crewed aircraft in combat.
