The survey by Canadian Spark Advocacy found 25% of respondents see EU membership as a good idea, with a further 58% saying it deserves closer consideration.

Less than a fifth of respondents – at 17% – opposed it.
The findings come amid debate over Canada’s place in the international order following renewed tensions within NATO and uncertainty over US foreign policy and Donald Trump’s repeated proposal of incorporating Canada into United States.
Support for closer ties with Europe was strongest among voters of the governing Liberals and other center-left parties, while Conservative voters were more divided, with a third opposing the idea.
Although Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has ruled out EU membership, Canada has been deepening cooperation with the bloc in recent years, including agreements on defense and participation in European security programs.
Brexit seen as mistake
The poll also showed Canadians are largely critical of Britain’s decision to leave the European Union.
Some 64% of respondents said Brexit was the wrong decision, with majorities across most political groups sharing that view, including Conservative voters.
The findings highlight how Canada, historically closely tied to the United Kingdom, is increasingly looking toward broader international partnerships as geopolitical tensions reshape alliances.
