Major-ranking officer accused of smuggling goods into the Gaza Strip, IDF and Shin Bet say

The IDF announced that the military prosecution filed an indictment against a major-ranking officer for smuggling goods into the Gaza Strip and bringing in an Israeli civilian for purposes other than operational purposes.

The military prosecution says he drove a truck into the Gaza Strip containing smuggled goods valued at millions of shekels. The truck was driven by a civilian, while the defendant drove in front of him in a military vehicle and helped him bypass the inspection and supervision mechanisms, while abusing his powers and military position and presenting a false representation that this was an operational activity.

According to the indicment issued on Wednesday, the officer is accused of aiding the enemy, taking bribes, smuggling goods as well as other offenses.

Trump welcomes UAE departure from OPEC and associated oil export group amid 'unprecedented' energy crisis

U.S. President Donald Trump has welcomed the announced withdrawal of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).

"I think it's great," Trump said at a press conference on Wednesday, adding, "I think ultimately it's a good thing for getting the price of gas down, getting oil down, getting everything down."

The UAE announced on Tuesday that it would leave OPEC and the broader OPEC+ alliance effective May 1.

The decision deals a heavy blow to the oil-exporting groups and their de facto leader, Saudi Arabia, at a time when the Iran war has caused ‌a historic energy shock and unsettled the global economy.

The United Arab Emirates' exit from OPEC is a major victory for U.S. President Donald Trump, who has accused the organization in 2018 of "ripping off the rest of the world" by inflating oil prices.
