Dmitry Medvedev, deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council, served as editor-in-chief of new social studies textbooks for grades 9 through 11, Deputy Education Minister Olga Koludarova announced at a presentation of the books.
“Page-by-page comments, suggestions, editing, and much more — all of this is reflected not only in the final version of the textbook, but also in the new federal standards and curricula for social studies,” Koludarova said.
The books were written by a team of professional lawyers, economists, sociologists, and historians.
Education Minister Sergei Kravtsov previously announced that social studies would be removed from the eighth-grade curriculum starting September 1, with the subject continuing in grades 9 through 11.
In 2023, Russian authorities updated history textbooks for 10th and 11th graders — covering both world history and Russian history — with presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky among the authors.
