The US has deployed its next-generation Precision Strike Missile (PrSM) into combat for the first time during the ongoing military operations targeting Iranian assets, according to a statement from US Central Command (CENTCOM).

The deployment took place as part of Operation Epic Fury, which started on 28 February 2026.

In a post on X, US CENTCOM said that long-range PrSMs delivered an “unrivalled deep strike capability”.

Admiral Brad Cooper, commander of CENTCOM said: “I just could not be prouder of our men and women in uniform leveraging innovation to create dilemmas for the enemy.”

Developed by Lockheed Martin for the US Army, the PrSM is a surface-to-surface missile system designed to neutralise, suppress, and destroy targets at significant distances.

Each launch pod can carry two missiles, with an operational range extending from 60 to over 499km.

The system features an open architecture and modular design, making it adaptable for future upgrades. It also uses an insensitive munitions (IM) energetic payload and is compatible with both the MLRS M270 and High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) launchers.

Lockheed Martin delivered the first PrSM to US Army in December 2023, after successful qualification tests at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico.

In addition to the PrSM, CENTCOM confirmed that the US military employed more than 20 different weapons systems across air, sea, land, and missile defence domains during the first 48 hours of Operation Epic Fury.

In a video message, Admiral Cooper stated that nearly 2,000 Iranian targets had been struck within just over four days of operations. He also noted that Iranian forces had launched more than 500 ballistic missiles and over 2,000 drones during this period.

Meanwhile, Iran claimed to have deployed its Fattah-2 hypersonic missile. If confirmed, this would mark the missile’s first operational use.

CENTCOM also confirmed the first combat use of the Low-cost Uncrewed Combat Attack System (LUCAS) by Task Force Scorpion Strike (TFSS) as part of the ongoing Operation Epic Fury. These drones are modelled after Iran’s Shahed series of unmanned aerial vehicles.
