13 March 2026 Secretary Hegseth asserted that since the beginning joint U.S. and Israeli strikes in Iran, “over 15,000 enemy targets have been struck… their missile volume is down 90 per cent. Their one-way attack drones yesterday, down 95 per cent… they are exercising sheer desperation in the Straits of Hormuz, something we’re dealing with”. Hegseth further posited that “soon, and very soon, all of Iran’s defence companies will be destroyed… as of two days ago, Iran’s entire ballistic missile production capacity, every company that builds every component of those missiles, has been functionally defeated, destroyed”. Joint Chiefs Chairman Dan Caine noted that “Iran has the capability to harm friendly forces in commercial shipping - particularly in the Strait of Hormuz… we’ve made it a priority to target Iran's minelaying capabilities. There are mine layers, the naval bases and depots in addition to the missiles that could influence the Straits, and CENTCOM continues to attack those efforts”.
