A Moscow court has ordered the arrest of Oleg Roldugin, a journalist at the independent Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta, on charges of illegally using personal data.
Case materials cite “contacts with Telegram bots” as evidence against him. After his detention, police gained access to Roldugin’s phone and account. During questioning, investigators asked him about running a personal Telegram channel, the independent Russian news outlet The Bell reported.
In court, Roldugin said he did not understand which of his publications had prompted the case. “I don’t know which article of mine […] I’m here for,” he said. He did not admit guilt.
On April 9, police searched the Novaya Gazeta newsroom. The search lasted more than 13 hours.
