Norway has signed the framework agreement under the Patria-led Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) programme, clearing the way for the country to begin serial procurement of Patria’s CAVS 6×6 armoured vehicles.

The agreement marks a further step in Norway’s involvement in the multinational initiative, which it joined in 2025 along with the UK.

Patria confirmed that negotiations concerning the next phases of the programme are underway alongside its British counterpart.

CAVS was established in 2020 as a co-operation effort between Finland and Latvia to deliver a modern 6×6 armoured vehicle system based on the Patria 6×6 vehicle.

The programme allows participating nations to acquire armoured vehicles through shared procurement processes, coordinated product development and joint management of the product’s life cycle.

In 2024, the initiative received a boost with a €60m allocation from the European Defence Industry Reinforcement Instrument through Joint Procurement (EDIRPA), intended to support European defence cooperation and procurement through joint initiatives.

The programme remains open to other European and NATO countries with similar requirements for 6×6 armoured vehicles.

Patria’s Protected Mobility business area executive vice president Jussi Järvinen said: “Norway’s signature of the CAVS Framework Agreement is another tangible step forward for multinational CAVS cooperation.

“The framework enables member nations to move fast, buy smart and sustain locally, delivering a consistent, interoperable protected mobility capability while strengthening security of supply through shared industrial cooperation.”

The Patria 6×6 vehicle is designed primarily for troop transport but can be configured for other roles such as company command, medical evacuation, heavy APC, and as a platform for the 120 mm Patria Nemo mortar system.

The vehicle accommodates up to 10 soldiers in the rear in addition to a driver and commander, with equipment capacity suited to a 72-hour mission, according to the company.

Patria is currently delivering CAVS 6×6 vehicles to Finland, Sweden, Latvia, Denmark, and Germany. The vehicles are also operational in Ukraine.

In February this year, Patria delivered the first five CAVS 6×6 armoured vehicles to the German Armed Forces under the programme.
