Medical officials confirmed that a 53-year-old female resident of the Kyrykivka community sustained severe burns and remains hospitalized in a critical condition. Nine other individuals sought medical assistance for various injuries.

The regional administration stated that the drone strikes caused structural damage to private residential homes and the premises of local gas stations. Officials emphasized that Russian forces deployed a large number of drones flying at low altitudes, a tactic intended to complicate radar detection and interception by air defense systems.

Damage assessment specialists are currently operating at the impact sites to determine the full extent of the destruction.

Nationwide drone interceptions

The strikes in Sumy were part of a broader aerial campaign targeting multiple Ukrainian regions. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia launched a total of 129 attack UAVs overnight. The barrage included Shahed, Gerbera, and Italmas models, as well as “Parodiya” decoy drones.

The launches originated from several locations, including Kursk, Bryansk, Millerovo, Orel, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia, alongside the occupied Crimean Peninsula and occupied Donetsk region.

The strikes injured six people, including a 13-year-old child. Municipal authorities subsequently established hotlines and a call center to facilitate evacuations and assist affected civilians.

The Friday night bombardment follows earlier drone strikes on Zaporizhzhia, which caused fires and resulted in injuries to nine people.

The attacks on Sumy and Zaporizhzhia also occurred alongside continued artillery and drone strikes in the neighboring Dnipropetrovsk region.
