Yandex adds data on gas-station lines to its maps, but only in Moscow and St. Petersburg

Yandex Go and Yandex Zapravki have added data on lines and fuel availability at gas stations, the company said in a press release cited by state news agencies.

The data had previously been available only to taxi drivers. Now any user can see on the map which stations drivers have recently fueled up at, filter results by fuel type, and check wait times.

The map is built on technology similar to Yandex’s traffic service, the company said. Data comes from Yandex Maps, fuel orders placed through the Yandex Zapravki app, and surveys of drivers who recently fueled up or passed a station.

Wait-time information launched in test mode for Moscow and St. Petersburg; residents of other cities will gain access in the coming weeks.

As a fuel crisis spreads across nearly all of Russia’s regions, regional authorities are introducing limits on gasoline sales, and long lines are forming at gas stations — in some cases stretching for kilometers. Drivers say the worst situation is in the Transbaikal region, where they can spend up to three days waiting in line.
