Of the 140 million hryvnias required, 58.8 million have been paid toward Yermak’s bail, according to the outlet. Verkhovna Rada deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak claims the defense has collected 100 million hryvnias.
Ukraine’s High Anti-Corruption Court does not operate on Saturdays or Sundays, meaning that even if the full sum is collected, the court cannot verify whether the funds have actually been transferred. Former Ukraine national football team coach Serhiy Rebrov is among those who contributed to the bail fund.
A court ordered Yermak detained on May 14 but left open the possibility of release on bail of 140 million hryvnias ($3.2 million). Yermak, speaking about the bail amount, said he did not have that kind of money and that his lawyer would discuss the matter with his friends and acquaintances.
