Israeli arrest operations escalate in Quneitra

Israeli occupation forces released three young men and a child whom they had arrested on Thursday, March 12, on the outskirts of Bariqa village (southern Quneitra countryside, near the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights) while they were grazing sheep, according to an Enab Baladi correspondent in Quneitra.

The detainees were released a day after being held near the border strip, in an incident reflecting ongoing security tensions in the southern Quneitra countryside.

Arrests and military incursions are repeatedly reported in villages close to the border, raising growing concerns among local residents about the escalation of such measures.

In recent days, the governorate has witnessed a series of similar incidents targeting civilians, including children and livestock herders, alongside the fall of drones and their debris in several areas of Quneitra.

Repeated arrests in border villages

Incidents recorded since the beginning of March indicate an increase in arrest operations in villages near the border strip south of Quneitra.

According to monitoring by Enab Baladi, the first of these incidents occurred on March 2, when Israeli forces arrested a child from Kudna village (southwestern Quneitra countryside) while he was grazing livestock.

On March 4, an Israeli military force raided the same village during the early morning hours, involving more than 50 soldiers and around 15 military vehicles. The force searched several homes and arrested a young man and a minor.

The two children, Wasim Zaid al-Salman and Mohammad Ibrahim al-Tahhan, as well as the young man Mohammad al-Tahhan, were later released after being held for about two days.

On March 8, Israeli forces detained four children from al-Asha  (southern Quneitra countryside) before releasing them the following day.

On March 11, two child livestock herders were also detained in Ruwayhina village (central Quneitra countryside) before being released later.

Drones and debris fall near residential areas

These incidents coincided with the fall of drones and their debris in several areas of the governorate in recent days.

On March 4, fragments of a drone fell in al-Salam city (Quneitra countryside) within the service district, causing material damage to nearby government buildings.

On March 11, the remains of a drone believed to be Iranian fell in Khan Arnabeh (central Quneitra countryside) near civilian homes, raising concern among residents.

On the same day, the fall of an Iranian missile in the villages of al-Mushqiq and Maas (Quneitra countryside) caused fear and panic among residents, though no injuries were reported.

Another drone fell on March 12 near the village of Qarqas in the southern countryside of the governorate, before a similar incident occurred at dawn on March 13 when the remains of another Iranian drone fell in al-Salam city.

Destruction of historical landmarks

Amid the field tensions, the Quneitra Media Directorate reported that Israeli forces destroyed parts of the historic al-Hasan Ibn al-Haytham Secondary School building in the destroyed city of Quneitra.

Previous destruction operations had also targeted other landmarks in the city, including the Stone Hospital and al-Andalus Cinema.

These developments come as Israeli forces had previously declared the destroyed city of Quneitra a military zone, banning civilians from approaching or entering it.

Under these conditions, residents of the border villages in Quneitra are living in growing anxiety due to repeated security and military incidents in the area, with no indications of an imminent de-escalation.
