Russia’s Justice Ministry has added Stanford University to its registry of “undesirable” organizations.
The Prosecutor General’s Office made the decision on March 26, though it was not announced publicly at the time.
Stanford University ranks among the top five universities in the world according to most major university rankings. Designating it an “undesirable” organization — a label applied by Russian authorities — means, among other things, that Russian universities are barred from conducting joint research projects with it.
Several other leading American universities have previously been added to the “undesirable” registry, including Yale University, the University of California, Berkeley, and George Washington University.
