Russian strikes on energy facilities cause new power outages in seven regions

As of the morning of June 22, Russian attacks have left users without power in seven regions; the situation is most critical in the Donetsk and Kherson regions.

According to Ukrinform, the NPC Ukrenergo reported this on Facebook.

“As a result of Russian attacks on energy infrastructure facilities, the situation is most critical as of this morning in the Donetsk and Kherson regions. These regions have the highest number of new power outages due to equipment damaged by the enemy. In addition, following overnight and morning shelling, consumers in the Sumy, Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, Chernihiv, and Zaporizhzhia regions are without power,” the statement reads.

Where safety conditions allow, power utility workers have already begun restoration work.

As of 9:30 a.m. on Monday, electricity consumption is 2.2% higher than on the previous business day—Friday, June 19. Ukrenergo attributes this increase to rising air temperatures in most regions of Ukraine, which is leading to heavy use of air conditioners.

The power system operator recommends shifting peak electricity consumption to the period when industrial solar power plants operate most efficiently—from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

As previously reported, no electricity consumption restrictions are scheduled for June 22 in Ukraine.
