Gardaí (Irish police) investigating the separate disappearance and murders of two women have begun a fresh search operation in County Wicklow.

Jo Jo Dullard, 21, went missing from Moone in County Kildare on 9 November 1995, after socialising in Dublin. The case was upgraded from a missing persons to a murder inquiry in 2020.

Deirdre Jacob disappeared on 28 July 1998, aged 18, and that investigation was upgraded to a murder inquiry in 2018.

An excavation and forensic search took place on open ground near the Wicklow-Kildare border in the Republic of Ireland (RoI) on Monday and is due to resume on Tuesday morning.

Deirdre was last seen crossing the road towards the entrance to her home at Roseberry, Newbridge, County Kildare.

A technical ground survey has been completed by gardaí assisted by the Irish Defence Forces.

The search operation is being led by the Serious Crime Review Team and Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation in conjunction with local police.

A garda spokesperson said: "An Garda Síochána has been and continues to keep the families of Jo Jo Dullard and Deirdre Jacob updated in relation to these investigations and they have been fully appraised of these developments."
