Kremlin claims air defenses showed ‘high performance’ during Ukraine’s drone attack on Moscow, urges public to watch ‘impressive’ footage of Russian strikes on Ukrainian cities

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov attributed Ukraine’s massive drone strike on Moscow on June 18 to its “difficult situation” at the front, the state-run Russian news outlet Vesti reported, citing remarks he made at a press briefing.

He said air defense systems had shown “high performance indicators — despite everything.”

“Look for more footage from various Ukrainian cities. The footage is impressive — showing the results of strikes by our armed forces. These strikes will continue,” Peskov said.

He added that Ukraine “is continuing its line” and that this “is not a desire to negotiate.”

“The ‘Kyiv regime’ is in a very difficult position. The situation at the fronts will soon become completely catastrophic for the Ukrainian side. That is what all of this [the attack on Moscow] is connected to,” the Kremlin spokesman said.

Moscow and the surrounding region came under attack from about 200 Ukrainian drones on June 18. It was the largest attack on the Russian capital since the start of the full-scale war.

An oil refinery in Moscow’s Kapotnya district was damaged. In the Moscow region, 17 people were injured and an eight-year-old girl was killed.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described the attack on Moscow as a justified response to Russian strikes. “If Ukraine burns, your Moscow will burn too,” he said.
