On the night of Saturday, July 4, Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov announced the details of the call. According to Ushakov, Putin congratulated Trump on the US Semiquincentennial and mentioned what he characterized as “Russia’s contribution to the formation of American statehood.”

The two leaders discussed the war in Ukraine. Ushakov claimed that during the call, Trump confirmed his readiness to facilitate an end to hostilities and assist in the search for peace. Furthermore, the Kremlin aide stated that Putin presented the Russian perspective on the frontline situation, asserting that Russian troops are advancing.

Independent Russian investigative outlet Agentstvo noted that earlier in the day, the Kremlin published the text of Putin’s Independence Day greeting to Trump – the first time it has done so this year. The telegram reportedly focused primarily on Putin’s views regarding how relations between the US and Russia should be structured.
