Man who opened fire on police in Odesa killed during arrest – National Police

A man who opened fire on patrol police officers in Odesa on March 25 was killed during a special operation to detain him.

According to Ukrinform, the National Police of Ukraine reported this on Telegram.

Police said the suspect refused to communicate with a negotiator and used firearms against officers of the KORD special unit during the operation. The use of force was necessary to eliminate the threat to law enforcement personnel.

The police said that the 45-year-old Odesa resident had been wanted for violating military registration rules. During a document check, he opened fire on police officers with an automatic weapon.

A special police operation was launched in the Odesa region to apprehend the suspect. Within hours, officers located him hiding in an unfinished building.

During negotiations, the man opened fire from the third floor at police officers, prompting KORD officers to return fire. The suspect was killed.

An investigative team is working at the scene, and the State Bureau of Investigation and prosecutors have been notified.

Earlier reports said that in Odesa, during a document check, a car driver opened fire on patrol police officers, injuring two of them.
