Moscow mayor’s Telegram channel hacked, flooded with ‘Moscow will burn’ posts and links to Ukrainian military fundraiser

Messages reading “MOSCOW WILL BURN” appeared in the Telegram channel of Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin on the evening of June 21, along with links to fundraisers for Ukrainian military drones.

The posts appeared in the channel “Sergey Sobyanin. Personal Blog,” which has nearly 40,000 subscribers (Sobyanin has another channel with 358,000 subscribers).

The posts included links to a drone fundraiser for Ukrainian forces from the Spilnota Sternenka foundation, the independent Russian news outlet Mediazona noted.

The channel was soon taken down, though an archived version was preserved on TgStat. By morning, the mayor’s previous posts had reappeared, the most recent of which is dated June 17.

Moscow city hall did not comment on the incident.
