Heavy Russian armor limited by ‘kill zone,’ infantry losses being replenished, military spox says

Russian forces in certain sectors of the front are mostly replenishing personnel losses rather than increasing troop numbers, while heavy equipment is used only in a limited way due to the nature of modern warfare.

This was stated on television by Viktor Tregubov, spokesperson for Ukraine’s Joint Forces Grouping, Ukrinform reports.

“If we look at our sectors, their (Russian - ed.) personnel is being replenished more than accumulated. That is, it is restored to the level it was at before they began actively engaging in offensive operations,” he said.

According to the spokesperson, this refers to maintaining unit strength after losses during active assaults rather than a significant buildup of forces.

“As for equipment, it is generally not used very actively, and that is understandable. This is the nature of modern warfare: due to a large ‘kill zone’ of about 20 kilometers, equipment usually cannot reach the front line – including tanks and infantry fighting vehicles. As for motorcycles and quad bikes, they do get through, but calling them military equipment is hard to say,” Tregubov added.

As reported, 107 combat engagements between Ukraine’s Defense Forces and Russian troops were recorded on the frontline over the past day, April 12. Since the announcement of the ceasefire regime, 10,721 violations by Russian forces have been documented.
