Details: Kosiniak-Kamysz also commented on reports that Ukraine had raised concerns about the technical condition of the Polish MiG-29s, saying Warsaw is ready to help modernise the aircraft.

Quote: "We are open to discussions. If Ukraine believes the aircraft need to be modernised, we can certainly help. However, the costs in that case should be covered by the Ukrainian state or by allied countries willing to assume those costs."

Details: The minister noted that reaching an agreement on the matter is feasible, but "the principle of reciprocity must be respected".

Kosiniak-Kamysz also stressed that "there is certainly much more good news than there was just a few days ago".

Quote: "The Ukrainian side has returned to negotiations. I am open to dialogue, but the principle of reciprocity and the principle of genuine solidarity must be respected."

Background:

  • In late June, Kosiniak-Kamysz said Ukraine had withdrawn from the proposed "MiGs for drones" agreement.
  • A few days later, he claimed the decision had been driven by the historical dispute between Kyiv and Warsaw.
