On Saturday, July 4, Ukrainian emergency services completed rescue operations at a 16-story residential building in Kyiv’s Darnytskyi district, following a massive Russian aerial assault on the capital.

The State Emergency Service of Ukraine (DSNS) reported on Telegram that crews working on the 12th and 13th floors cleared approximately 42 cubic meters of construction debris. Using a crane provided by units from the Rivne region, rescue workers removed 24 reinforced concrete fragments weighing a total of 53 tons.

Human remains discovered in the rubble were transferred to the National Police for forensic identification. The operation at this specific site involved 30 rescuers and eight pieces of specialized equipment.

According to municipal authorities, the confirmed casualty toll from the Russian attack on Kyiv has reached 31 dead and 102 injured as of July 4.

A day prior, on July 3, emergency crews concluded search and rescue operations at a separate nine-story residential building in the Darnytskyi district that was also destroyed during the same attack. Ten bodies were recovered from beneath the rubble at that location.

Vow of retaliation and scale of the attack

The deadly strikes occurred during an intense bombardment on Thursday, July 2. President Volodymyr Zelensky visited the devastated residential sites in the Darnytskyi district shortly after the attack and stated that Moscow would face consequences.

“Russia will receive a response for today’s strike on Kyiv – without a doubt,” Zelensky said during his visit.
