2 Killed, 20 Injured in Russian Morning Missile Attack on Kharkiv

Russian forces launched a series of missile strikes on the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv on Wednesday morning, killing at least 2 people and injuring 20 others, including 3 children, local officials said.

Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, lies about 30 kilometers (19 miles) from the Russian border and has been subjected to frequent missile, drone and guided bomb attacks throughout the full-scale war due to its proximity to Russia.

One of the missiles struck a five-story apartment building in the city’s Nemyshlianskyi district, Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov said.  Regional Governor Oleh Syniehubov said Russian forces carried out three strikes in the district.

Among the injured were three teenagers aged 14, 16 and 17, according to Syniehubov.

Emergency officials identified the two people killed in the strike as a man and a woman, both believed to be in their 60s. Most of the injured suffered blast trauma and shrapnel wounds, according to Viktor Zabashtha, head of the Kharkiv Regional Center for Emergency Medical Care, who said 10 ambulance crews were deployed to the scene.

Preliminary findings from prosecutors suggest Russian forces may have used a Tornado-S multiple launch rocket system in the attack.

Separately, a Russian attack drone hit a gas station in Kyivskyi district, sparking a fire. No casualties were immediately reported at that location.
