The pressure cooker that is the Haredi draft issue, and the relationship between Haredim and the state, reached a boiling point this week that could perhaps be defined as historic. It could force the state and the Haredi community to finally make difficult decisions, thereby dismantling the ultra-Orthodox strategy that prevailed for 30 years: buying as much time as possible. The state, and particularly the Netanyahu government, also followed a similar strategy; for lack of choice, it too will need to truly act on the issue for the first time.
