President Zelensky confirms second strike on Moscow Oil Refinery

President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that Ukrainian forces had struck the Moscow Oil Refinery for the second time in a week during an overnight long-range drone attack.

According to Ukrinform, Zelensky made this statement on Telegram.

"Last night, our long-range sanctions once again reached the Moscow region – for the second time this week, the Moscow Oil Refinery was hit," he said.

According to the President, targets were also struck in Russia's Rostov region and in Russian-occupied areas of Ukraine.

"This is a fully justified response to Russian attacks on our cities and communities, and another important result of our warriors’ work against facilities that sustain Russia’s war machine," Zelensky said, thanking Ukraine's Security Service, Unmanned Systems Forces, Special Operations Forces, Defense Intelligence, and the missile brigade for their precision.

He added that Ukraine's partners had praised the precision and effectiveness of Ukrainian mid-range strikes and long-range sanctions.

"It is time the war ended, and Russia must take the necessary steps in diplomacy," Zelenskyy stressed.

Meanwhile, the BBC Russian service reported that Moscow and the surrounding region had come under a large-scale drone attack, with a fire breaking out at the Moscow Oil Refinery in the Kapotnya district.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin claimed that Russian air defenses had intercepted 194 drones heading toward the capital. He acknowledged that several drones had reached the refinery and reported falling debris at the Sadovod shopping center.

According to OSINT analysis published by Astra, at least five separate fires were detected at the refinery. The outlet also reported damage to a residential high-rise building in Moscow.

In Russia's Rostov region, OSINT analysts said a drone strike had triggered a fire at an oil depot in the town of Gukovo. Regional Governor Yury Slyusar reported two fires at commercial facilities, damage to a locomotive, one fatality and two injuries.

Astra also reported a fire near the town of Shebekino in Russia's Belgorod region, which analysts believe may have affected a warehouse containing flammable materials and possibly military-related goods.

Russia's Defense Ministry claimed that 555 drones were intercepted or destroyed overnight over 17 Russian regions, occupied Crimea and the Sea of Azov. According to Russian reports, the attack on Moscow was the largest in the past two years.

As reported by Ukrinform, on June 16, Ukraine's Special Operations Forces, working alongside the Unmanned Systems Forces, the SBU and Defense Intelligence, carried out a strike on the Moscow Oil Refinery.
