The German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) have placed an order with Rheinmetall for more than 2,000 military transport vehicles.
The order covers about 1,000 8x8 and 1,000 4x4 and 6x6 vehicles, with deliveries starting in the first half of 2026.

The contract, valued at €1.02bn ($1.18bn) gross, covers unprotected logistic vehicles in 4×4 (3.5 tonne), 6×6 (5 tonne), and 8×8 (15 tonne) configurations.
According to Rheinmetall, this deal forms part of a 2024 framework agreement that covers up to 6,500 vehicles in total. The order will be recorded in the second quarter of 2026.
Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles (RMMV) is scheduled to begin deliveries during the first half of 2026.
Most vehicles are expected to be delivered before the year’s end. Of the vehicles ordered, around 1,000 will be 8×8 models, with the remainder comprising approxiamtely equal numbers of 4×4 and 6×6 types.
The Bundeswehr relies on this family of unprotected logistic vehicles, known in German as Ungeschützte Transportfahrzeuge (UTF), for its logistical operations.
These vehicles make up a central part of the force’s supply and transport capabilities.
The ongoing cooperation between Rheinmetall and the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) is intended to secure the timely provision and replenishment of equipment.
RMMV CEO and chairman of the Board Christoph Müller said: “Thanks to the extensive standardisation of the HX vehicle family, the Bundeswehr benefits from considerable synergies in training, operation and maintenance.
“Our unprotected and protected vehicles are in service worldwide and have proven their reliability under the harshest climatic conditions.”
The ordered vehicles are based on the HX series, which has been designed for military requirements and is marketed as having off-road capability and robustness.
The military off-the-shelf design is aimed at combining series-production technology with military-specific modifications.
Earlier in January 2025, the Bundeswehr purchased 568 new vehicles from Rheinmetall in a separate order worth over €330m ($341.8m).
That order included 349 UTF trucks in 5-tonne and 15-tonne variants, and 219 swap-body trucks, of which 121 featured protected driver’s cabs.
