A Russian military transport plane crashed in Crimea on Tuesday, killing all 29 people on board, Russia’s Defense Ministry said. The An-26 was carrying six crew members and 23 passengers.
The aircraft disappeared from contact at around 6:00 p.m. Moscow time on March 31 while on a scheduled flight over annexed Crimea. A search-and-rescue team later located the crash site, the ministry said.
“There was no strike on the aircraft. The preliminary cause of the crash is a technical malfunction,” the ministry said.
A source told the Russian state news agency TASS that the An-26 had struck a cliff.
