Ukrainian foreign minister on Russia breaching ceasefire: Putin cares only about parades
Ukraine’s foreign minister says Russia is derailing peace initiatives as attacks continue, and noted that calls for a Victory Day ceasefire are fake; more pressure and sanctions are needed.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has said Russia's proposals for a truce on 9 May, which is Victory Day in Russia, have nothing to do with diplomacy, as Moscow has violated a ceasefire initiated by Ukraine from the very start of 6 May. [Victory Day is a Russian holiday commemorating the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany in 1945, celebrated on 9 May – ed.]

Details: Sybiha noted that Russian forces had launched three missiles and 108 UAVs on Ukraine since the evening of 5 May. The attacks continued overnight and are ongoing as of this morning.
"This shows that Russia rejects peace and its fake calls for a ceasefire on 9 May have nothing to do with diplomacy. Putin only cares about military parades, not human lives," Sybiha stressed.
He added that pressure on Russia should be increased, particularly through new sanctions, isolation, holding the Russian Federation accountable for their crimes and stronger support for Ukraine across all areas.
Background:
On 29 April, Yuri Ushakov, an aide to the Russian leader, said that Vladimir Putin had held a phone call with US President Donald Trump, during which Putin said he is willing to declare a "ceasefire" on 9 May.
Zelenskyy said it was "dishonest" of Russia to kill Ukrainians and then ask for a one-day ceasefire.
On 4 May, Russia's Ministry of Defence unilaterally declared a "truce" for 8 and 9 May and warned that if the Victory Day parade in Moscow on 9 May is "disrupted", it will launch a large-scale missile strike on central Kyiv.
On the same day, Zelenskyy announced the introduction of a ceasefire, set to begin at exactly 00:00 on 6 May.
Russia has violated the declared ceasefire within the first minutes.
