AFU liberate over 600 square kilometers from the enemy since year started, Syrskyi says

Since the start of the year, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have liberated over 600 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory from Russian invaders.

According to Ukrinform, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine General Oleksandr Syrskyi announced this on Facebook.

“Despite constant pressure from the enemy, the Armed Forces of Ukraine continue to steadfastly hold their defenses, destroy the occupiers, and deliver effective strikes against the enemy in its operational and strategic rear. These are the main results of our troops’ activities in May, which we analyzed during our monthly summary meeting,” he said.

As Syrskyi noted, the situation on the front remains complex and dynamic. The Russians have not ceased their attempts to advance in eastern and southern Ukraine, and the number of combat engagements has increased significantly. The most intense fighting is taking place in the Pokrovsk, Oleksandrivka, and Huliaipole sectors.

At the same time, the Commander-in-Chief emphasized, the Defense Forces continue to maintain the initiative in certain areas. As a result of active operations in May, the ratio of liberated to lost territory stands at nearly +100 square kilometers in Ukraine’s favor. In total, over 600 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory have been liberated since the beginning of the year.

According to Syrskyi, Ukrainian forces have carried out thousands of successful strikes on Russian military targets over the past month. Unmanned systems units struck over 88,000 targets and, according to estimates by the Unmanned Systems Forces command, neutralized over 30,500 Russian servicemen, while Front and Middle systems continued to systematically destroy Russian command posts and arsenals.

Over the course of the month, Deep Strike systems struck 111 enemy targets within the military-industrial complex, energy sector, and fuel infrastructure serving the Russian army.

Direct and indirect economic losses inflicted on the enemy as a result of Deep Strike operations in May amounted to approximately $1.058 billion.

“For the first time, as part of a unified plan, a series of successful strikes was carried out against military-industrial and fuel-energy complex facilities in Moscow and the Moscow region. This once again confirmed the Defense Forces’ ability to inflict significant losses on the enemy far behind the front lines,” the Commander-in-Chief stated.

As Syrskyi noted, the air defense forces and systems carried out important work. In May, they destroyed over 59,000 aerial targets and repelled 25 Russian missile and air strikes.

At the same time, the general emphasized that Ukraine continues to need additional modern air defense systems and missiles for them, because every target intercepted means lives saved.

Throughout May, the Naval Forces carried out approximately 1,500 operations to ensure the safety of civilian shipping in the combat zone, enabling 633 vessels to pass through to the ports of Great Odesa and the Danube River.

Syrskyi also reported that he had heard briefings on measures to restore the combat readiness of military units and subunits, engineering and fortification works, logistical support, and the state of law and order within the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Based on the meeting's results, he set tasks for all components of the Armed Forces of Ukraine for the coming period.

As reported by Ukrinform, Syrskyi said that Russian invaders have reinforced their units in the Oleksandrivka, Huliaipole, and Orikhiv sectors.
