Defying Trump’s calls for restraint, Israel and Iran trade fresh strikes

As Monday morning broke over a Middle East bracing for renewed conflict, a fragile regional ceasefire appeared to have collapsed after the resumption of direct strikes between Iran and Israel.

The latest developments came as US President Donald Trump said Israel would have no choice but to accept a potential deal, following an interview walkout when pressed on his campaign pledge of “no new wars”.

Some experts said Trump’s credibility was being called into question as Israel defied his warnings against further strikes.

Here is the latest on the conflict.

Tit-for-tat strikes resume

Iran’s state media IRNA said the country had retaliated against what it called a “US–Israeli enemy attack”, launching a barrage of missiles and claiming it struck “industrial targets” in Haifa, Israel, in response to a strike on an Iranian petrochemical facility.

In a statement, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard accused Israel of starting a “dangerous game,” warning it could target energy infrastructure across the region, with potential consequences for the global economy.
