First Sergeant (res.) Alexander Glovanyov, 47, from Petah Tikva, was killed on Sunday after a Hezbollah drone hit the tank carrier he was driving near the Israel-Lebanon border, the IDF announced on Monday morning. His family has been notified.

Glovanyov served as a lead vehicle driver in the 6924th Transport Battalion under the Technological and Logistics Directorate.

A preliminary investigation showed that Hezbollah terrorists had launched a fiber optic drone toward Israel. The drone had hit Glovanyov's tank carrier near an IDF outpost on the Israeli side of the border.

The explosion seriously wounded Glovanyov. Soldiers from the outpost attempted to provide him with medical treatment, but were forced to declare him dead at the scene.

According to Army Radio, the IDF had failed to identify the drones, and as such, Glovanyov received no advance warning of the danger and was killed by one of the explosions.

Further, Army Radio said that Glovanyov was the fourth IDF soldier to be killed during the ongoing ceasefire with Hezbollah as a result of explosive drones.

Israeli officials offer condolences

"My wife and I extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of the late 1stSgt. (res.) Alexander Globnyov z"l, who fell near the Lebanese border," Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a post to X/Twitter on Sunday. "Alexander z"l, aged 47 at the time of his death, volunteered for reserve duty out of a deep commitment and profound sense of mission to defend the State of Israel."

Former prime minister Naftali Bennet also offered his condolences to Glovanyov's family over his death in an early Sunday morning post to X.

"The heart aches over the fall of 1stSgt. (res.) Alexander Glovanyov, 47, from Petah Tikva, was killed by a Hezbollah explosive drone strike near the Lebanese border," Bennett wrote. "At the age of 47, Alexander volunteered for reserve duty to serve the state and protect us all."

Deputy Foreign Minister Sharren Haskel echoed the sentiment in her own post, extending her condolences to the family "over the death of their beloved one, a driver in the 6924th Battalion of the Transportation Center, in a battle near the Lebanese border."

Glovanyov was a "man of the land who reported for reserve duty out of a sense of mission and profound dedication," Haskel added.

This is a developing story.
