Gazprom facility catches fire in Belgorod following attack – social media

A facility belonging to Gazprom came under attack in the Russian city of Belgorod on Tuesday, with a fire breaking out at the Belgorod Linear Production Department of Main Gas Pipelines.

According to Ukrinform, Telegram channel Astra stated this in a post.

During the night of July 7, residents of Belgorod and the surrounding region reported numerous explosions. Acting Governor of the Belgorod Region Oleksandr Shuvaiev said the region had come under a missile attack, resulting in damage to "a facility in Belgorod" and to energy infrastructure.

According to Astra's analysis of eyewitness footage, one of the targeted facilities was the Belgorod Linear Production Department of Main Gas Pipelines (Belgorod LPDMG). A fire broke out at the site.

According to publicly available information, the Belgorod LPDMG is a branch of Gazprom Transgaz Moscow LLC, which is part of PJSC Gazprom. The unit is responsible for operating the region's main gas pipeline infrastructure and ensuring reliable gas transportation to consumers in the Belgorod Region.

Shuvaiev also reported disruptions to electricity and water supplies in several districts of Belgorod and neighboring municipalities.

Meanwhile, in Russia's Kaluga Region, a drone attack caused a fire in an industrial zone.

Regional Governor Vladislav Shapsha said the fire broke out at an industrial enterprise in the Dzerzhinsky District.

The district is home to the Pervyi Zavod oil refinery, an oil depot in the settlement of Zhiletovo, and several major pulp and paper industry enterprises.

The governor of the neighboring Tula Region claimed that 11 UAVs had been shot down over the region.

In addition, Russian media, citing the BBC Russian Service, reported what they described as the largest drone attack on Moscow in the past two years.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said on Tuesday morning that from Monday evening until 06:00 Moscow time, "more than 430 drones were heading toward the Moscow region," claiming that most had been intercepted by air defenses "at distant approaches."

In his morning update, Sobyanin also reported that 36 drones had been shot down while "approaching Moscow."

As noted in the report, the Moscow mayor typically reports only drones allegedly intercepted on approach to the capital and does not disclose the total number that were heading toward it.

Russia's Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya) temporarily suspended takeoffs and landings or imposed flight restrictions overnight at all four Moscow airports: Domodedovo, Vnukovo, Zhukovsky, and Sheremetyevo. Airports in Kaluga, Nizhny Novgorod, Krasnodar, Sochi, and Saratov were also temporarily closed due to the drone threat.

As Ukrinform reported, on Monday the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed a strike on the Omsk Oil Refinery, located nearly 2,500 kilometers from Ukraine's state border.
